Using examples of campaigns that have been highly successful and those that have failed, across all social media platforms, Vaynerchuk uses the benefit of hindsight to highlight to businesses the do’s and don’ts in this ever changing social media world.
With his down to earth, streetwise style Vaynerchuk shows in this book how content is the key to success and has to be adapted for each element of social media including Facebook, Instagram, Pin Interest, Twitter and Tumblr.
Who’s Gary Vaynerchuck?
Born in the Industrial town of Babroysk in Eastern Belarus, in the Soviet Union Gary Vaynerchuck took over the running of his Father’s Liquor store when he left college in 1999 and by 2005 the business had grown from a one million to five million turnover.
A master of social media and management he is co-founder of numerous companies including VaynerMedia that specialise in Social Media management Vayner RSE, Vayner sports. His awesome YouTube channel is something you should definitely check out, especially the #AskGaryVee show, where he answers burning questions by his audience. He’s well known for his no nonsense talk (or what I like to call cursing like a drunken sailor – which I have no problem with) he’s also a HUGE fan of the New York Jets.
Vaynerchuk has appeared on numerous talk shows like Ellen Degeneres and has featured in publications The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. He was awarded The Morning News’ Favourite Web Phenomenon, and featured in The Wall Street Journal Twitters Small Business Big Shots.’

Some parts seem a little contradictory, for example Vaynerchuk talks about EdgeRank on Facebook, when this was stopped some time ago, but later in the book he advises that Facebook had stopped EdgeRank. So why talk about it?
General opinion from some readers was that it is an excellent book for beginners and those new to social marketing, but the general consensus from those who have already had experience in this field, or who have read ‘Crush It’ or ‘The Thank You Economy’ was that there was no new advice.
One reader said he found the book very helpful with regard to marketing on Social Media because he was totally new to it, but he wanted the book to show him exactly how step by step, but found that it stopped short of this.
It should be considered that given the rapid changes in the subject matter how quickly this advice will be out of date.
